High-Tech High Heels North Texas Fall Grantees
High-Tech High Heels is happy to announce the recipients of our HTHH Fall 2020 Grant cycle!
Young Women’s Preparatory Network is a grant recipient with a strong infrastructure for layered programs. Their Vidcode program will support over 600 girls from 5 middle and high schools across Texas showing them that computer programming can be a viable field for their college major and career direction. Vidcode courses teach the girls computer science, object-oriented programming, web programming, design, and JavaScript. Through the Vidcode program, the girls will connect computer programming to the media they interact with every day.
FIRST in Texas – FIRST Like a Girl, a second-time recipient with their proven robotics program, will reach 330 girls in elementary and middle school with our grant. The program includes sessions on advanced LEGO robotics programming, presentation and public speaking, engineering process of robot design, how to be successful in high school and college with STEM, and STEM career opportunities. FIRST Like a Girl provides an environment where girls explore engineering, design, fabrication, programming, as well as the business side of developing a start-up as they are challenged to solve real-world problems.
Design, Connect, Create is a long standing partner of HTHH. This new grant will fund the development of a pilot CodeHER robotics camp, adding another layered program to their successful physics camps. The program allows girls to collaborate on building and programming a robot to solve a simplistic version of a real-world problem. In addition to the robotics focus, the camp will also explore careers to inspire the girls with the countless opportunities they can pursue.
